Last sunday I took MGMAT-I.  What to say folks !!!

A Miserable performance at its best.

I haven’t prepared much since my last attempt which was a year ago.
However analysing the scores clearly directs me to the efforts I need to put in to gain a respectable score.

My math skills are damn rusted. I scored the lowest score 39 with as many as 15 wrong. Not a good start. Areas I need to work are: Geometry & Problem Solving in general.
I did all random guesses for the last 5 questions with 2 mins left. And in K*** my A** style all those were marked wrong. So, I need to work on my timings (A very important aspect without getting jitters !! ).

One good sign on this first exam is my RC skills. I am doing pretty good. I just did 2 wrong in RC section.
Whereas SC & CR needs proper efforts. I will stick with my current plans on RC & continue working on SC/CR.  Hope to see some improvements in the coming weeks.

Overall score: 580 :(

My next one is after MGMAT preparations by the end of Week 4. I hope to do far better than this one.

Now more prep time..

Thoughts on India’s decision on IEAE July 16, 2008

Anil Kakodkar, chairman of Atomic Energy Commission & secretary for Department of Atomic Energy answered some of the questions posted by The Hindu. http://www.thehindu.com/2005/08/12/stories/2005081204521100.htm

Anil is of the opinion that the agreement at IEAE is a good one and as a responsible country India is aware of what to expose to Nuclear facilities & what not to.

Anil cites, this opens doors to India’s vast power requirements (10,000 MWe) in the near term. Argument about the agreement is based on one critical issue, how does India provide access to ONLY civilian Nuclear facilities. India largely has bases that are used for dual purpose: i.e. civilian as well as Military.

To segregate this into purely civilian facilities will be costly proposition per A.N Prasad of Baba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), more importantly what timeframes do we have in achieving the segregation. Does India have the say when they would allow IEAE to inspect our facilities or which facilities? This need to be clearly ironed out in the agreement only then UPA supporters would support the agreement.

Otherwise, it will be a Indian fallacy on such an important agreement.

Alternatively, what are the options we have as a country to enrich our Power problems? Projects at Nalagonda in AP and Domiasat in MP are stuck with local population stopping the work in agitation for mining natural uranium.
Although Banduhurang and Turamdih in Jharkhand are identified for other sources of natural uranium, this may not be sufficient for a power hungry country India.

Besides what other resources do we have in order to build a nation with enough power for the nation? These questions cannot be answered without the help of outside agencies. India definitely needs the support for Nuclear power plants from Nuclear Supplier Groups (NSGs) such as Russia, China & others.

So let’s wait to see how things shape..

Sunil Bharati Mittal, is one man for past 15 yrs or more on my mind as the super hero of entrepreneurship.

Today I read an interview excerpt on wharton knowledge. It truly confirmed my belief of this man as one of best entrepreneurs to be. I was hardly 18 when I used to read about him. I wanted to invest with him, but then my pocket money was not sufficient. After reading today’s article I learnt a new lesson on entrepreneurship. Never think small about your plans, leap for the big with speed and the perfection will follow.

With government policy issues looming large in his earlier days, he still made it through.

From his Ludhiana days where he started off on building crank-shafts for bicycles to portable generators in Mumbai to today’s largest Mobile operations in India a man with the Metal is Mr.Mittal.

MBA Obsession July 10, 2008

I have this MBA obsession for quite a few years now. Yes ! U read it right. I have tried at GMAT multiple times without much success. My wife thinks I am over ambitious on my abilities and should not waste so much time & do the MBA from a local college. I know it sounds immature for one to pursue this long journey on the path of getting MBA.  However, I think I have the zeal to do this &  I am not burnt out as yet. Although I will be one of the oldest applicants in the pool,  I still see a definite plus to my career with an MBA from top school.

At present I am preparting to write the dreaded, nightmare exam nth time (my last attempt). I guess I am still not able to overcome the phobia of GMAT exam, which is killing my score to below average every time on the actual one. While practising at home I get a decent score close 700 but that does not matter unless ETS stamps me with the score.

I hope this blog helps me in unwinding my MBA journey over next few months. Be it a sucess or failure you will see at the end of this year b-school admission season.
